Keep moving forward. That is the greatest joy in life.

At 105 years old, Chiu Mo-hawk can speak that line with more conviction than most people.

Chiu’s way of moving forward one small step every day is going to school and studying hard, according to Hong Kong Economic Journal Monthly..

He is pursuing a doctorate degree in National Tsing Hua University after completing his master’s program at 98.

He was an inspiration for his grandson, who once loathed exams but finally got into college under his prodding.

Chiu’s classmates are impressed with his dedication.

“He is five times my age and still studying so seriously. I have all the respect for him,” one said.

Chiu may be old and hunched but he never misses a lesson and he always sits in the front row.

“Once you decide to do something, you have to stand tough,” Chiu said.

His master’s thesis was about Chinese calligraphy in which he is a pro.

He launched an exhibition last year and his works are among the collections in the British Library.

How does Chiu stay healthy?

“I have no secret. I just try to be optimistic always and hopeful all the time,” he said.
