Apple Inc.’s iPhones may still be selling very well, particularly in countries like China, but some fans are getting a little worried and wonder if the tech leader is gradually losing its vitality.
There has been little to be excited about Apple’s latest iPhone releases, said Erwin Huang, president of the Hong Kong Information Technology Federation.
Apple no longer stands for something cool, he said.
“Technology is all about taking the lead and being inspiring. Apple was able to do that, but it’s falling behind now,” he wrote in a blog.
“Other tech juggernauts are carrying out various projects to make this a better world in areas like education and transportation, whereas Apple is just making minor enhancements to its devices,” he said.
“There is no virtual reality feature and nothing related to popular themes such as electric car or smart home in its new products.”
Relying on mobile phones for 65 percent of its income, Apple is tied to a mature product.
Google’s Chromebook has also begun to outsell Apple’s Macbook this year.
Huang said he is converting to Google for some products.
Apple’s future looks worrying if others follow his example in big numbers, he said.
