Tampere, Finland, is where Nokia Corp. was born.

The city used to be Finland’s major industrial hub.

Erwin Huang, president of the Hong Kong Information Technology Federation, recently visited a college there.

Huang was amazed by how the college adopts a holistic approach to supporting and nurturing startups.

He wrote in his blog that the culture of entrepreneurship is very strong.

Lots of students already own their companies.

There is a new building dedicated to startups, where young companies can use the co-working space at a very low cost.

There are also free 3D printers and 3D scanners, together with numerous labs for startups to do their research and development.

Every Friday, Huang wrote, the college organizes events at which startups can gather with professors, students and researchers to discuss problems the fledgling companies encounter or new projects they plan to work on.
